Frequently Asked

Common Questions

Click any question to see the answer.

Is A Better Place Services really free for families?
Yes. A Better Place Services is always free for families — we only get paid by the community they choose after a successful move to senior living.
Where does A Better Place Services operate?
Central Texas — Austin, Round Rock, Georgetown, San Marcos, and surrounding communities. Since 2020, we've helped over 1,000 Central Texas families find their better place.
What is the $500 community rep placement credit?
When a senior living community representative refers a discharging resident to ABPS and we successfully place them, $500 posts to that community's account as a credit toward the next placement fee. No expiration, no paperwork on the rep's end.
How quickly does ABPS contact a referred family?
Within four business hours for community-rep referrals. Within one business day for family-branch referrals. If a target discharge date is within seven days, the referral is auto-flagged for priority routing.
Does ABPS handle Medicaid or lower-income placements?
Yes. We work the full care-level and payer spectrum, including Medicaid pending. If we know we can't help a family, we refer them to the right resource rather than dragging them through a bad process.
What happens if a resident's discharge is urgent?
If a target discharge date is within seven days, our system auto-flags the referral for priority routing. We move as fast as the family lets us.

Refer a Family

You just spotted a family who needs a Better Place.

Thank you. Truly. Senior living decisions are some of the hardest a family can face — and a warm introduction from someone who's been there means everything.

Watch · Why your referral matters

Tell us a little about the family you'd like to introduce to A Better Place Services. We'll reach out gently, with no pressure and no obligation. Our advisory service is completely free to families — communities pay us only after a successful placement.

And here's the part we love most:
When the family you refer successfully moves into their Better Place, A Better Place Services donates $100 in your honor to Family Eldercare — an Austin nonprofit that supports vulnerable seniors across Central Texas.

For Families

Common Questions from Families

Straight answers before you refer.

Is A Better Place Services really free for families?
Yes. Always. Families never pay a cent to work with us. We're paid by the senior living community your loved one ultimately moves into, and only after a successful placement.
How does ABPS get paid if families don't pay?
The community your family chooses pays us a placement fee after your loved one successfully moves in. That fee is baked into their normal operating budget — it doesn't inflate your family's monthly rate. It also means we're only incentivized to find the right fit for your family, because a bad match doesn't stick and doesn't pay.
What areas do you serve?
Central Texas — Austin, Round Rock, Georgetown, San Marcos, and surrounding communities. Since 2020, we've helped over 1,000 Central Texas families find their better place.
Does ABPS handle Medicaid or lower-income placements?
Yes. We work the full care-level and payer spectrum, including Medicaid pending. If we know we can't help a family, we refer them to the right resource rather than dragging them through a bad process.
What's the $100 donation to Family Eldercare about?
Family Eldercare is an Austin nonprofit that supports vulnerable seniors across Central Texas. Every time a family you refer successfully moves into their new community, we donate $100 to Family Eldercare in your honor — our way of making sure the good you did compounds beyond just the family you helped.

For Community Representatives

When a resident outgrows your community, give them a soft landing.

You've built something special. But sometimes a resident's care needs grow beyond what your community can provide — and the discharge conversation can feel like the hardest part of your week.

Watch · Protecting your reputation through discharge

Send them to A Better Place Services. We'll find them a community that fits their new level of care, handle the family conversations, coordinate the tours, and make sure your resident's transition feels supported — not abrupt.

We happily take the burden of discharges away from your staff for any resident, not just the ones we placed with you!

Why this protects (and grows) your reputation

In senior living, reputations are hard to win — and easy to lose. Every discharge is a moment where yours is being judged. When the family is handed off to someone they already trust — Jay Hufford at ABPS, who placed their loved one with you in the first place — the transition becomes a continuation of the care you started. They leave grateful. They tell their friends, their physicians, and the next family looking for a community.

Your reputation doesn't just stay where you built it — it gets stronger.

And because we know you're sending us a real lead with real urgency:
For every resident you refer who successfully places through A Better Place Services, we'll credit $500 toward your community's next placement fee. No cap. No expiration.

For Community Reps

Common Questions from Community Reps

The nuts-and-bolts of how the referral program works.

What is the $500 placement credit and how does it work?
When you refer a discharging resident through ABPS and we successfully place them, $500 posts to your community's account as a credit toward your next placement fee invoice. No expiration, no paperwork on your end. It just accumulates until you use it.
Do we need a contract to participate in the referral program?
No additional contract beyond our standard terms agreement. No minimums, no exclusivity. Just formalized so the credit posts automatically instead of us tracking it manually.
Can we still work with other placement agencies?
Absolutely. Think of us as additive — the option for when your existing partners are at capacity, when the discharge is urgent, or when the family wants a second opinion. We're not asking for exclusivity.
How quickly does ABPS contact the family?
Within four business hours of your form submission. You'll get a status update within 48 hours, and regular check-ins throughout the search. On move-in day, the $500 credit posts automatically to your account.
What happens if a resident's discharge is urgent?
If the target discharge date you enter on the form is within seven days, our system auto-flags the referral for priority routing. My team knows about it before I hit refresh on my inbox. We move as fast as the family lets us.
